Jubilarians celebrate gift of priestly vocation at Mass

Bishop Walker Nickless offered words of congratulations and thanks for their priestly ministry to the jubilarians celebrating anniversaries this year during a special Mass on May 7.
“God our father called you many years ago to this experience and beautiful vocation of priesthood,” he said. “The church here in the Diocese of Sioux City and wherever you have served has been truly blessed. I am grateful for all you have done and all that still remains in your work as priests of Jesus Christ.”

Since May of 1987, Mercy Air Care (MAC) has been serving the residents of Siouxland.
To acknowledge the silver anniversary of Mercy Air Care, Mercy Medical Center hosted a community-wide celebration to recognize the MAC flight crews, EMS responders, regional hospitals and the thousands of patients who have been served.

A group of about 20 priests from the Diocese of Sioux City recently completed the first training module for a program designed to help them enhance their leadership skills.
The Good Leaders, Good Shepherds leadership program, offered by the Catholic Leadership Institute (CLI), provides a comprehensive curriculum designed to teach leadership best practices to priests. This module, offered May 1-3 at Broom Tree Retreat Center in rural Irene, S.D., is the first of several sessions to be offered in the next 18 to 24 months.
