Thought about it in grade school and gently felt it develop over the years at Kuemper High School and Loras College. Did anyone provide you with the inspiration to follow the call to priesthood? My pastor at Willey, Rev. H.J. Drees and my family certainly supported me. Was it a difficult decision to make? Yes and no! I think I always felt I could make a difference as a priest, but sometimes wanting ways I would be tempted. What do you enjoy most about being a priest? Celebrating the Eucharist, being able to be present to people in good times and difficult times and teaching in grade school. Are there any particular devotions or prayers that are dear to your heart? Daily office, rosary, holy hour in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament Why do you find the priesthood to be a worthy vocation? Priesthood is one of many important ways to “be with” people to serve Christ and respond to their needs. It brings peace and joy to so many that need that connection. I don’t think we may feel worthy, but God graces us as priests to touch so many that we can feel his loving touch. What would you say to a young man considering a vocation to the priesthood? Be open. Be honest. Search. Learn. Grow. If God wants you as a priest, he will certainly give you those gifts of Spirit that help you make the right decision. Pray and listen for God to speak to you. |
