DCCW seeks nominations for new officers
By Wynn Touney
DCCW
After all the people had been baptized and Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, heaven was opened and the Holy Spirit descended upon him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, "You are my beloved Son, with you I am well pleased." Luke 3: 21-22.
What a beautiful picture of the Holy Trinity! We can each visualize our favorite masterpiece of this scene and find it amazing to place ourselves in that picture as one of those also being baptized. Would we have been even able to understand what was going on? We do have that opportunity each time we are present at the actual baptism of a new baby, a child or an adult. Let us thank God for the blessing of those baptized this past year and pray for all those to be baptized during this new year of 2012.
With all of these past weeks of celebrations, it is good to find ourselves in this new year with all of its promises and new resolutions. In addition to the call for resolutions, the Diocesan Board of the Council of Catholic Women has issued the call for information and nomination of any person qualified and eligible for the diocesan elective offices. The names of the nominees who have given consent to serve must be submitted to President Ellen Streit, 109 4th St., NW, West Bend, IA 50597, or egstreit@nen.net. All questions can be directed to President Streit at (515) 887-4058. So if you would like to be involved and be vital to Council, please let that be known. If you know someone who has wonderful attributes and ability to lead, please contact Ellen to submit to the committee.
New officers will be elected at the biennial Convention to be held on April 20-21 at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Moville, IA. In addition to the business of the Convention, a special themed program by Endow (Educating On the Nature and Dignity of Women) presenter will direct a spirit-filled event for all attendees. More information will follow, but you will want to "Save these dates" on your calendar.
"National Sanctity of Life Sunday" will be held Jan. 22 as it observes the 39th year since the Roe vs Wade court decision. President Ronald Reagan proclaimed this day on Jan. 13, 1984. The most recent proclamation was done by President George W. Bush in 2009. Please ask for Mass intentions for this day. Also pray for the great number of Iowans and others at the National Right to Life March in D.C. on Jan. 23. Watch the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) for the march and highlights which can also be found online.
40 DAYS FOR LIFE will begin on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 22 and continues to April 1, 2012. All of us are encouraged to participate in these days by personal prayer and fasting, by public witness and vigil at an abortion facility if possible or by doing outreach with education and activity such as helping at a pregnancy center. Please go to www.40daysforlife.com for information and updates on community happenings as well as the numbers of babies and parents saved. Remember to ask for God's guidance for those involved in 40 Days around the world.
The annual Prayer for Life Rally will be held on Mon., March 5 with special speaker, Pastor Walter Hoye. the founder of Issues 4 Life. Pastor Hoye has been arrested numerous times for his witness and prayer time at CA abortion centers. The location for the morning gathering is pending. The afternoon activity will take place in the rotunda of the State Capitol with the opportunity to contact legislators. Please watch for more information and make plans to carpool with friends to participate in this important day.
With our blessing of Baptism, let us pray for all to Our Lord of Divine Mercy and Our Lady of Good Counsel. |
