Siouxlanders take stand against abortion

Standing in the back of a pick-up, 14-year-old Monica Bertrand greeted the nearly 250 people who gathered for the first-ever Siouxland March for Life.

“I am here to protest abortion and apparently you are too,” said Bertrand, Siouxland director of Teen Defenders. “Today is the 39th anniversary of legalized killing in our country. It needs to stop – let’s not have a 40th anniversary. Let’s all end it.”

She told the crowd that if they banned together and stood up against abortion it would end. Bertrand pointed out that the CEO of Planned Parenthood had recently reported that 2011 was their worst year for abortions in the organization’s history.

Priests share thoughts: Schools spread faith Catholic Schools Week 2012

Sending a child to a Catholic school is a choice that influences not only the student’s education but also the faith of the child and the entire family.

Throughout the years, priests have witnessed several examples of students who have grown in their faith as a direct result of their education.

Bishop Garrigan Schools, Algona
On Jan. 29, students will be involved in all parish Masses. An all-system Mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 30 by Father Paul Eisele at St. Cecelia Church. The money collection at Mass will be for Care Team. On Feb. 2 there will be a staff breakfast at Bishop Garrigan High School.

Seton Grade School, Algona
Each day during Catholic Schools Week, the fifth and sixth graders will lead prayer. Jan. 31 will be student appreciation/gift day and everyone will wear black and gold.
