Knights sponsor visit by Fleet for Little Feet Catholic Globe report The Fleet for Little Feet mobile pregnancy care center was in Sioux City once again July 27. This visit was sponsored by the Blessed Sacrament Bishop Newman Flanagan Council 11038. According to Michael Skaggs, past grand knight, being pro-life is the one of the main pillars of the Knights of Columbus. “Knights understand the importance of fighting to save the lives of the unborn and protecting those who are unable to defend themselves,” he said. “The Fleet provides the necessary tools to help in this fight. Our Council saw value in this project because it provides women who are pregnant and unsure of their options a place to talk with counselors and see their baby with the help of an ultrasound.” Skaggs added that the women are given accurate information regarding the options available to them. “The services of the Fleet are free to the women due to the support of people through donations,” he said. “Until we have a facility near Planned Parenthood that will provide these same services it is important to fund Fleet for Little Feet and help those who have questions and do not know where to turn.” This visit was the first that the Blessed Sacrament Knights have sponsored as a council, but individual members of the Council have helped raise money for previous visits. And this is not the council’s first pro-life involvement. Every October the proceeds of from their breakfast are donated to various pro-life organizations in the Sioux City area. “It is important to help these groups so they can continue to do the great work that they do,” said Skaggs. “In the past our Council has also led the monthly rosary for the unborn at Trinity Heights on the 22nd of each month.” This mobile unit is operated by Alpha Center in Sioux Falls, SD, and has teamed up with local pro-life sidewalk counselors to help women understand the truth about the life growing inside of them. According to Becky Kolb, the ultrasound tech sonographer with the Fleet, this mobile unit travels to various communities in the tri-state area – South Dakota, Iowa and Nebraska. In addition to providing free ultrasounds, she said Fleet for Little Feet offers pregnancy testing, STD testing and options counseling. They also provide the initial conversations for abstinence and post-abortive counseling with resources and referrals for future help. “We are meeting women where they are at in their pregnancy and showing them there are alternatives to abortion,” Kolb said. “In teaming up with the local pregnancy center and sidewalk counselors, we are providing them with physical, emotional and spiritual support.”
